As long as I can remember I've spent a lot of time looking down. My Grandmother used to complain about it and people would make comments about how my posture would be terrible and I'd end my life as a twisted pretzel because I couldn't straighten up.

But there were so many things to see if you walked a little slower and looked a little more carefully. The rocks, the plants, the fungi. I could entertain myself for hours while out in a playground or park by trying to identify everything in sight.

Going for hikes with me is an exercise in futility. My long-suffering fiance is pretty understanding, but even she sometimes disappears around a bend in the trail ahead of me in search of something other than "really interesting ferns" or whatever else I'm down on one knee looking at.

My first camera was a gift for High School graduation when I thought I'd be pursuing a career in Botany. My first lens was a macro, which I still have and use today.

There are two galleries on this page. One for fungi, and one for plants, mosses, and ferns. Click on the images to the left to view.
